Greetings from the Association of Resident Doctors, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ARD ISTH)!We are delighted to share some of our key achievements, activities, and welfare strides recorded so far this executive year:
1. Successful 20th AGM & Scientific Conference – Held 16th–21st December 2024 with the theme “Punching Bag Syndrome”, featuring robust member participation and a peaceful election process.
2. Social Bonding & Member Engagement – From our “Movie & Chill” event in January, to the
Valentine’s Karaoke Night after our first OGM in February, members enjoyed fun, relaxation, and camaraderie.
3. Academic Growth – Two capacity-building seminars on Research Methodology and Statistical
Analysis held in February boosted members’ academic and research skills.
4. Health Awareness & Free Medical Services – • World Glaucoma Week (March 12, 2025): Free screening including visual acuity checks, tonometry, fundoscopy, and OCT for suspects. • World Oral Health Day (March 24 – May 6, 2025): Six weeks of free scaling and polishing services for members.
5. Welfare & Infrastructure Development – • Renovation of the ARD Library into a serene academic hub. • Completion of a new House Officers’ Quarters awaiting commissioning.
• Reformation of ARD Drycleaning Services for improved convenience. • Launch of ARD Kitchen/Canteen, offering delicious, affordable meals for members. • Gift of a Brand New HP Printer from Edo NMA to support administrative efficiency.
6. Business & Economic Advancement – Commissioning of a new, befitting ARD Business Centre structure on 4th July 2025, replacing the old makeshift caravan.
7. Member Welfare Milestones – • Celebration of 3 weddings (27th Dec 2024, 21st Apr
2025, 24th May 2025) with strong ARD representation. • Welcome of 16 babies (including a set of twins) from 15 members. • Emotional and moral support extended to 9 members who lost loved ones. • Complete payment of the accoutrement allowance to members, facilitated by
ISTH Management.
8. Full Participation in Edo NMA AGM – ARD ISTH actively engaged in the activities, discussions, and decision-making processes at the Edo NMA Annual General Meeting.
Special Appreciation: We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the ISTH Hospital Management ably led by Prof. Reuben Eifediyi, the Edo NMA State Officers Committee led by the dynamic Dr. Eustace Oseghale, the Departments of Ophthalmology, Dentistry, and Community Medicine ISTH, and to everyone who contributed to helping us achieve these dreams.
